Chelsea Girls Lacrosse Chelsea Girls Lacrosse Rolls Past Sharon Acad. By Mary Childs The Chelsea girls’ lacrosse team faced two opponents last Saturday—Sharon Academy and the heat. But the Devils prevailed and dominated the lacrosse field despite the weather, and came away with a 16-3 quarter-final win over the Phoenix. Chelsea earned the first lead within minutes, letting Sharon know that they came to play, and scored two more before Sharon tallied one of their own. Within the next few minutes Chelsea seemed to have lost some of their fire as Sharon took advantage and closed the gap to 4-2. That was as close as Sharon came to beating Chelsea. The Lady Devils proved that they were not out of fuel and fired in three more goals, leading them into the half-time break with a 7-3 advantage. In the second half the Lady Devils fired up their game and smothered Sharon’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals. There was no turning back or letting up as Chelsea sent one goal in after the other on the offensive end while the defense gave Sharon very few opportunities to tally a goal of their own. In the second half Chelsea outscored Sharon 12-1, allowing the Phoenix’s last goal of the season during the final minutes of the game. At the end of the game Chelsea had earned a 16-3 win over Sharon and a trip to the semi-finals. Chelsea’s wide range of players helped lead them to their win, including two eighth graders that have proved to their teammates and spectators that they can compete on a varsity level. Jasmine Braman tallied three goals to make her one of the high scorers, and Whitney Ladd made two of her own and assisted three of her teammates with goals. Hillary Bonasera also proved to be a key player as she tallied three goals of her own and recorded two assists. Grace Amber and Michelle Upham provided the team with two goals each. Althea Spencer also tallied two goals, along with two assists and three interceptions, proving that she is a dedicated, key player to the team. Sam Bonasera and Brenda Manning also put two into the back of the net. Morgan Tullar played a stellar game as goalie and tallied 10 saves. The Devils’ record improves to 15-0, and they faced BFA-St. Albans Wednesday in semi-finals. ____________ |
