The Sharon Academy boys defeated the D-III Blue Devils in Williamstown last Saturday for their fifth straight victory of the season and a perfect record with the 3-1 win.

Danny Moore scored twice for TSA and Colin Pope added the other goal. TSA scored the first six minutes into the contest when Pope took a pass from Duncan Nelson right by goalie Merrill Bashaw for the never-ending lead. Just before the break, Moore struck with an unassisted deposit in the 40th minute doubling up on the Blue Devils. A Williamstown push on Alex Rogers sent Moore up for a penalty kick in the 70th minute, which had Moore with two goals and Sharon up three-zip.

With the game winding down, a Danny Moore push put Galen Milchman up with a penalty kick and earned Williamstown and Milchman, in particular, the distinction of being the first team this season to get the ball past Phoenix goalie Brad Farrell. Farrell finished the game with two saves while Bashaw made 11 stops.

Another Win

TSA did it again and posted win number six with a 6-0 shutout in Rochester Tuesday against the Rockets.

Pope sent the ball over to Hannes Fischer-Byrne, who deposited the ball between the posts at the five-minute mark, and then scored an unassisted goal just three minutes later, putting Sharon up by two early on.

Then from 13:01 until the break it was very aggressive ball hand-ling, as neither team was able to get past the defense of their opponent. Rochester’s Matt Brown was a formidable foe in the back line and managed to halt the progress of the Phoenix more often than not as Pope and Otto Pierce worked to bring the ball down the wing. Bobby Farrell managed to do the same thing for Sharon as Rochester tired to hit pay dirt.

Michael Young-Ward got the scoring started in the second half, when he put the Phoenix up by three at the two-minute mark with an unassisted deposit. Pope added the fourth goal of the game midway through the period with help from Fischer-Byrne. Nelson and Pierce combined for the fifth tally five minutes later, with Duncan scoring off Pierce’s assist. Pope scored his third and the game-final goal with under five minutes remaining in the game, as TSA continues to dominate in D-IV soccer action.

Brad Farrell finished with three saves in the contest, while Rocket Alex Kelly had 14. TSA out-shot their host’s 20 to 11 and had two more corner kicks than Rochester, at three.

Sharon travels to South Ryegate tomorrow and faces the Blue Mountain Bucks, in their only scheduled outing in the regular season, before hitting the road to Putney next Wednesday.
