TSA Boys Still Undefeated TSA Boys Still Undefeated By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier In quarter-final action last Friday in Sharon, the #2 Phoenix were everyplace and everywhere as they controlled the game from start to finish and posted another shutout victory, this time against their #10 Twinfield Trojan opponents, 4-0. In the first seven minutes, TSA showed Twinfield that they meant business, taking aim seven times with five of their 10 first half corner kicks. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to capitalize on any of them. If that wasn’t enough, ricochets off the right corner post low, the crossbar and the right corner post high were just as frustrating, as TSA failed to secure a goal. But that all changed eight minutes later when Hannes Fischer-Byrne sliced the ball into the net diagonally, right to left, for the opening goal of the game, unassisted. Five minutes after that, Fischer-Byrne passed the ball to Colin Pope, who dribbled the ball right down the center and into the net for the second Phoenix tally. In the 28th minute, a perfectly arched Danny Moore corner kick landed front and center and dead-on to Michael Young-Ward’s head, from where it literally got headed in. Up three-zip at the break, TSA was sitting pretty, but taking nothing for granted, and returned to the game focused. Less than two minutes back Colin Pope stumbled and left the game with a bruised ankle. The Phoenix scored their final goal at 22:00. TSA was bringing the ball down the field full throttle, when Bobby Farrell passed to Michael Young-Ward on his left, and Young-Ward cleared the strings of the empty net that the Trojan keeper had vacated when he misjudged both the speed and the direction of the delivery. Two shots and two corner kicks were all that Twinfield was able to manage in the outing. Sharon was on top of things the entire game, and had exceptional defensive coverage the entire time as well. Eddie Massimino, Evan Frank, Andrew Parent and Cody Spiegel were like moving brick walls that the Trojans were unable to penetrate. Twinfield finishes the season 6-9-1 and Sharon improves to 15-0. ____________ |
