Sharon Academy Loses In Semis to Websterville Sharon Academy Loses In Semis to Websterville By Laurie-Jean B. Gauthier The #3 Sharon Academy Phoenix boys’ basketball team fell to #2 Websterville Baptist Christian School Warriors in semi-final action, 44-29, at the Barre Auditorium last Wednesday night. It was a very slow start, as both teams attempted to start the scoring, and missed three times, before Isaac Ranson scored the first hoop just past the six-minute mark. Sam Wood matched the basket at 5:49, and that would be the only tie of the contest, as WBCS added a Ranson three and a hoop apiece from Andrew Shuman and Steve Davis. Leo Dutil added another trey and a final Shuman basket resulted in a 14-2 Warrior invasion after eight minutes of play. A Colin Pope three-pointer at the top of the second period had Sharon attempting to erase the lead, but Websterville would have none of that as they scored after each successful Phoenix delivery. Evan Frank added one free toss, while Michael Young-Ward went two-and-one, then Otto Pierce made his first basket of the game. The in-between Warriors hoops had WBCS up double TSA, 22-11, at the break. Pierce scored the bulk of the Phoenix third-quarter points with five, but Leo Dutil single-handedly erased those. Websterville held a cushiony 14-point edge, 33-19, entering the fourth quarter. Pierce and Young-Ward both scored two baskets while Wood added a hoop to finish the game for TSA. WBCS scored seven of their 11 fourth-quarter points from the stripe. Pierce finished the game with 11 points, and Young-Ward added 7. WBCS’ Andrew Shuman scored 10 points, Steve Davis had 11, and Leo Dutil was high scorer with 14 points. Sharon finishes the season 15-6, and WBCS improves to 20-2. |
