Three Public Hearings Set On Three Grant Proposals

Three Public Hearings Set On Three Grant Proposals

The public is invited to three hearings with respect to three grant requests the town of Randolph is considering making in this round of grants from the Vermont Community Development Program.

The proposed grants will be regarding the Carbon Harvest proposal to generate electricity from the methane gas at the landfill ($200,000), water and sewer mapping in the village ($50,000), and an accessibility improvements at Chandler ($50,000).

The hearings begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Technical Academic Room at Randolph Technical Career Center.

The hearings will be held one after the other, in the order listed above.

The Carbon Harvest-related grant would assist with extending town water and sewer service to the area of the landfill. The Williston company is interested in using the methane gas at the landfill to generate 130 watts of power. Waste heat from the operation could be used for a greenhouse complex or other activities, the company proposes.

The water mapping proposal would seek state funds to go along with a budgeted amount to complete a comprehensive map of the water and sewer infrastructure throughout the village area.

The “accessibility modification grant” is sought by Chandler to help comply with the accessibility requirements in its expansion project.

Copies of all three applications will be available at the town manager’s office starting the previous day, Tuesday the 14th.

It was noted at last week’s selectboard meeting that submitting three proposals at once might mean they would compete against each other, but the hearings for all three will proceed.
