Woman Killed in Route 110 Crash

A 67-year-old New Hampshire woman was killed in a two-car crash on Route 110 in North Tunbridge Saturday, according to state police in Royalton.

Arlene Elderd, 67, a passenger in a northbound 2008 Scion, died after her husband made a left-hand turn onto Dickerman Hill Road and into the path of a southbound 2008 Audi RS4 driven by Lyman Orton, 69, of Weston.

The Audi struck the front passenger side of the northbound Scion; Elderd suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, George Elderd, 70, was transported to Gifford Medical Center then flown to Dartmouth Medical Center with a collapsed lung. Orton was uninjured in the crash.

The Elderds, who moved to Tunbridge in 1990, had moved to Lebanon, N.H. recently.

Police said all three were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the 4 p.m. crash, which occurred not far from the Tunbridge home of the Elderd’s son, George Jr.

Police said it was clear and sunny at the time of the accident.

The Elderd’s vehicle sustained passenger-side front and front-end damage, and Orton’s car had front-end damage.

Orton is the owner of Vermont Country Store in Weston, and also founder of the Orton Family Foundation.

An obituary for Arlene Elderd appears in the B-section of this week’s Herald.
