Deane F. Fassett

WESTMINSTER, MD.—Deane Fraser Fassett, 83, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Brinton Woods Nursing Center in Sykesville, Md.

Born October 7, 1925 in Randolph, he was the son of the late Gail (Opie) and Belle Fraser Fassett.

He was a 1944 graduate of Randolph High School and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maryland. He was also a graduate of the McLean School of Nursing in Boston, Mass. He had a long career in nursing administration, working as director of Nursing Services at University of Maryland’s Psychiatric Institute as well as Spring Grove State Hospital, Chestnut Lodge Psychiatric Hospital, Mount Wilson Hospital and Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.

He served in the United Sates Army Air Force with the 348th Air Service Group as a radio repairman in the Asiatic Pacific theater during World War II. He had a passion for sailing and sports cars, was an avid runner into his 70s, and had a great love for music of all kinds. He especially enjoyed correspondence with former classmates, colleagues, friends, and family.

Survivors include his sister, Altha Warner of Randolph; daughters and sons-in-law, Nolly and Barry Gelsinger of Westminster, Md., Jeanne and James Buhl of Finksburg, Beth Fassett and Steve Cummings of Portland, Ore., and Karen Fassett-Hinkhaus and William Hinkhaus of Westminster; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were held Saturday, June 27 at Myers-Duboraw Funeral Home, in Westminster, Md., where a memorial service also took place the same day. Inurnment followed at Meadow Branch Cemetery with military honors.
