Randolph Girl Picked

For Vt. Stars Hockey

For Vt. Stars Hockey

Erin Easton, daughter of Paul and Andrea Easton of Randolph, recently tried out for and made The Vermont Stars u14 Girls Hockey Team.

The Vermont Stars program offers full season u12 (born, '97, '98) and u14 (born, '95,'96) teams for the upcoming hockey season.

These teams will represent Vermont at the USA Hockey New England Tier I Regional Tournament in March, 2010, with the opportunity to advance to the USA Hockey National Tournament in April, 2010.

Erin, who will turn 14 Aug. 1, has been skating and playing hockey since she was three years old.

She grew up on the Randolph town rink and was there constantly—always the first to arrive and the last to go home. Anytime there was any kind of game being played, Erin was right in the middle of it, her father, Paul Easton said.

“She would help out the younger players, compete against her peers, (both boys and girls), push herself to keep up with the older boys, and run the adults ragged,” he said.

In 2006, Erin joined the Northfield Amateur Hockey Association Girls u12 team that played at the A/B level, while continuing to play hockey at the Randolph rink.

At the end of the 2007/2008 season, Erin led a strong u12 Northfield girls team to the Vermont State Tournament, where they finished as runners-up to Northshire from Manchester in two thrilling games. Last year her team moved up to the u14 bracket and finished fourth in the state. In her two and a half seasons with NAHA, Erin scored over 60 goals, had a slew of assists, and played strong defense.

It is rare that a player from a local outdoor rink is selected by a team of this caliber, Easton noted.

Summer has not brought the end of Erin’s hockey playing, as she is playing Sunday mornings at Cairns Arena (LPHL), and in August will attend hockey camp for a week in Montpelier.

The Stars will begin training at the end of September, playing games in Vermont, Canada, and throughout New England. Learn more about them at www.vtstars.org.
