The Rochester husband and wife team of Bill Harvey and Judy Pierce, who own and operate OutdoorScapes, has attracted a lot of attention from interested passersby during the past month as they created an impressive stone wall along the Gifford Medical Center campus on South Main Street in Randolph.
The couple is hard at work this week finishing up the wall, which is made of Vermont fieldstone and measures three feet wide, by 30 inches high, and is 134 feet long. They worked with Theron Manning to plan how the project would look, and began the actual construction work June 30. They said there are plans to build another section of wall later.
The majority of stone for the project was donated by Joe and Teresa Voci and came from a ramp leading to an old barn on their Randolph Center property. Additional stone came from the foundation of a barn that burned down on Route 12 in Randolph.
“We’re always doing long-range facility planning to find ways to improve our campus,” commented Ashley Lincoln, who is director of development and public relations for Gifford. “We were trying to create more green space where a ravine had been filled in the past.”
Lincoln noted that, in addition to the donated stone from the Vocis, other donations had come in to help pay for the work itself.
“It’s a wonderful project and we think the Harveys have done a great job!”
