Pet Bathing Clinics Proving Popular at VTC: More Coming

By Mary Margaret Breed

The Veterinary Technicians’ Club of Vermont Technical College will hold another set of pet bathing clinics December 5 and 6 in Morrill Hall from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They will be collecting items for their Holiday Donation Drive at the clinics as well.

The club's first bathing clinic of the year, run both as a community service and a (very successful) fundraiser, was held in October. The first of 60 customers was a 15-year-old, 95-pound St. Bernard having the first bath of his life (except for his mother's birth licks). A few tiny dogs got a wash, but mostly big ones—and one cat.

Another clinic was held in November.

The clinics are first come, first served, for a moderate charge, and the next is coming right up, as stated above. The washing begins at 8 a.m.

Donations for the pet goods drive can be brought to the bathing clinic or can be dropped at the information office in the VTC Administration Building.

Club members will sort the donations and deliver them in festive boxes to a number of animal shelters in the region. Suggested donations: Canned and dry dog and cat food, pet treats and toys, blankets and towels, and kitty litter.

Vet tech student and cplub member Leah Alarie described last year's result:

"It was a big hit with the shelters we donated to last year. They stared in awe as we brought three to four big boxes overflowing with goods. We had quite a bit donated from some stores, and some gift cards.

“One store chain was discontinuing a line of product, and it was all pet stuff! They gave us hundreds of dollars worth of supplies. One man brought us a big case of paper towels! It was a great success, and we hope to be just as lucky this year."

Your dog must be accompanied by his or her rabies certificate in order to take part in the program.
