Chelsea Boys Drop Three On January 13 the Chelsea boys were defeated by the Concord Wildcats, 65-40. The first few minutes of the first quarter, the Devils were able to stick with the tall Concord boys, leaving the score 3-2, two and a half minutes into the game, with the Wildcats leading. Slowly, the Wildcats were able to start pulling away from the Devils. Beginning the second quarter, Chelsea's Luke Amber was on fire, and he began leading his team. By half time, Chelsea had worked hard to tighten the gap to just a 10-point difference, 27-17. Starting the second half, the Devils came out ready to play, and in the first five minutes of the third quarter the Devils outscored the Wildcats 7-5. The Devils were unable to continue their rally, and again Concord pulled away, taking the lead to 45-27 by the end of the third. Trevor Giles stepped up to lead off the third and began blocking shots as well as throwing down some hoops for Chelsea. A timeout with just 4.59 left in the game was called, with the score 55-31, Wildcats. With low numbers, and players fouling out, Concord finished the game with only four players on the court. Leading for the Devils was senior Amber with a team high score of 18 points, and Giles with 11. Websterville Chelsea next traveled to play Websterville on January 16, and although the Devils held the Warriors’ lead to much less than last time, Chelsea suffered a close loss, 51-46. Chelsea was only trailing by nine points going into half time, with the Warriors leading 29-20. The Devils continued to play hard defense, and they were able to hold the top players on the Warriors’ team to fewer points. Andrew Shuman and Brady Orr totaled 13 points for their team. Leading scorers for Chelsea were Giles with 12, and Amber with 11. Bethel On January 18, the Bethel Hornets topped the Chelsea Red Devils, winning 46-42—Bethel’s first win. The game was almost a repeat of the previous time the Hornets and Devils had played; the Hornets were leading by one point at half, but this time, the Hornets were the team that ended up on top, ending with the same score as last time, except it was Bethel claiming its first win. Both teams rallied back and forth, the Hornets leading at half time, the Devils taking over, and then once again the Hornets took the lead during the third quarter. The lead continued to bounce back and forth between the teams, and neither team let up. Chelsea’s Jon Tremblay was leading scorer for his team with 19 points, Amber trailed right behind Tremblay with 17 points. The final buzzer made it Bethel’s first win of the season, 46-42. The Chelsea Devils will next host the Sharon Academy on January 22, at 7 p.m. |
